Why does candy say poor bastard

And when they were gone, Candy squatted down in the hay and watched the face of Curley's wife. The sound of the men grew fainter. Old Candy lay down in the hay and covered his eyes with his arm. This is Candy's final scene, his denoument. Moments earlier he expressed his feelings toward Curley's wife, and nothing has happened to change that condemnation. Looking at her face while saying "Poor bastard," referring either to George or Lennie, links her as the person responsible for Lennie's impending death and for shattering their dreams.

Just prior to Candy squatting, the action and focus shifted to George: Slim turned to Candy. The rest of us better get goin'. George stopped a moment beside Candy and they both looked down at the dead girl until Curley called, "You, George! You stick with us so we don't think you had nothin' to do with this. And when they were gone Candy squatted You may be conflating Candy's squatting "in the hay" with his subsequent lying in the hay. The sequences is: George leaves; Candy squats and says "Poor bastard" while watching her face; the sounds of the men grow fainter; the horses shift their feet and rattle halters; then Candy lies down and covers his eyes, signifying his acceptance of defeat.

George was the key to Candy's dream to escape the misery of his ranch life and fear of a grim future. Moments earlier, after days of repeated misgivings about Curley's wife, he issued his final condemnation of her. I swear you hadda. Come on with me. After Lennie dies George began to feel lonely very quickly and begins to open up by questioning if what he did was wrong just like Candy did with his dog. Candy also saw himself in his dog. A while back Candy got his hand caught in a machine, so now he sees and old disabled man who will be thrown off the ranch as soon as he is no longer able to swamp the bunkhouse.

Candy is an old man that lost his hand in an accident. Similarly to Crooks, his handicap hinders his ability to work with others in the fields, so he works inside the farm, cleaning up the farm by himself. The work, Of Mice and Men, written by John Steinbeck, brings in many aspects of the disappointments throughout a man's life. As the main characters in the novel, George and Lennie, run all over the country in hopes of finding a stable job, they have the common dream of owning a piece of land for themselves.

Throughout the story, Steinbeck reveals that the real tragedy that troubles the characters' lives is death, whether it be the death of a loved character or the death of hope. Steinbeck first displays the concept of death with Candy's dog. When Candy's dog is killed by Carlson, Candy is in complete downcast, unaware of what to do. However, as he escapes one constraint, he encounters a new one through incarceration brought by his family in his room.

At the end of the novel, Gregor comes to conclude that the only way to escape his fate is death. The time spent in solitude, the countless hours of overhearing conversations tallied up to his emotional conclusion of neglection. George lied to the boss because it was not usual to take care of other men like George did with Lennie.

He wanted the boss to believe in him. The boss thought that George wan using Lennie, so he could get his money, but that was not the case so he lied.

Their boss didnt understand it. George needs Lennie if he wants his own farm because its hard work to work at a warm. Lennie is very strong and is good at working. George doesnt leave Lennie because he need him. They have some thing to talk about.

Talking is important in a relationship and also working toward something. All Lennie talks about is tending the rabbits. George uses this to make Lennie be good. When George put Lennie down he wanted it to be humane. He talked with Lennie about the dream. Lennie is the strongest worker at the farm and Curley feels jealous. Curley is the bosses son and he wants to feel that he is more important, but Lennie is a better worker an d bigger in size too.

Lennie doesnt laugh at him, he is laughing at a jokee someone made.
